Allergy immunotherapy, called as allergy shots, is a long-term process of treatment for certain allergies to reduce the severity of symptoms of allergens. These allergy shots provide long-term effectiveness towards allergens even after treatment cessation. They cure the underlying cause of the allergic reaction and eventually letting patient’s body tolerate the allergens that trigger the symptoms. Immunotherapy tends to bring change in the immune system of the patient and bear fewer symptoms or no symptoms. These all makes them a real money saving and efficient approach to masses. But this therapy is not short-term treatment; it would take a long-term commitment of years like 3-5 for it to work. These shots are recommended for children above age 5 and adults. Children below age 5 may not cooperate with the program and find it hard in explaining the experiences of any adverse symptoms they face or feel. Talking about old age adults, their medical condition has to be taken into consideration such as cardiac disease, diabetes etc and discussed with the specialist.
